DefundASUW Statement on Nordheim Homicide
Yesterday, SeattlePD responded to reports of a homicide at UW's Nordheim Court. DefundASUW does not yet know the identity of the suspect; however, we do know that for the past three years ASUW has chosen to align itself against the institutions that exist to prevent exactly this from happening.
ASUW owes the Nordheim community an answer: was last June's resolution condemning police conduct worth it? In our view, ASUW's repeated hostility toward campus safety officials combined with its alignment with anti-police organizing groups creates environments which we believe raise the risk of violent crime.
DefundASUW does not suggest ASUW holds responsibility for last night's tragedy. We do suggest that ASUW's actions have consequences, and that the people of UW deserve better.
